Book 20 by John Berdon

In book 20, the suitors meet and once again are plotting Telemachus' murder, but one suitor talks them out of it. Who is this suitor, and what does this show about his character? Also, when the suitors are laughing at Telemachus' threats, the walls and they are covered in blood, and their faces are ghost like. What does this mean, and what is being foreshadowed? Do you think that this book this will lead to the climax? Why or why not?

  1. The suitor that talks the rest of them out of Telemachus' murder is Amphinomus this shows that he is wiser than the other suitors and pays attention to details because there was a bad omen. What is being foreshadowed is that all the suitors are going to die because the blood is covering the walls and their faces become ghost-like. This means that doom is upon them soon. I think this will lead to the climax because it will be when Odysseus kills all the suitors.

  2. The suitor that talks them out of it is Amphinomus. This shows us that Amphinomus is judicious, and that he thinks about his actions before committing a random murder. This means that the suitors stay is almost over, and that they will soon die. The death of the suitors is being foreshadowed. The blood-covered walls symbolize the blood of the slain suitors, and the ghost-like faces symbolize their dead souls or ghost. I do think that this book will lead to the climax because it is building the suspense of Odysseus regaining his throne and him getting revenge on the suitors.

  3. the suitor to talk the rest out of killin g telemachus id amphinomus. this shows he is compassionate and even though he is a suitor and what he is doing is wrong this shows he's not a bad man. he thinks about hios actions and respects his host. I dont think he deserves to be killed because hes just following what the rest of the suitors are doing, hes not doing anything bad just because he's mean. the walls covered in blood and their faces ghostlike is foreshadowing what odysseus wil ldo to them, it was athena that made the uncontrolllable laughter and i think thats why she did it.

  4. Amphinomus is the suitor that protests against killing Telemachus. I think that we lead that his character is one of the few suitors that must have some sort of respect and love for Odysseus and his family. If he didn't care at all, he wouldn't have protested. Therefore, I think we find ourselves somewhat hoping he turns out okay. It also makes the the prophecy of them all dying more of a emotional thing. The blood on the wall and ghost is a prophecy that all the suitors will soon end up dead and just be ghosts floating around in Ithaca. I think that the climax of this book is when Odysseus reveals his identity. In showing that the suitors will end up dead, we presume Odysseus will be able to reveal himself and win back his kingdom.

  5. This suitor who tries to talk the other suitors out of the plot to murder Telemachus is Alphinomus. I think that this character in the book has more honor than any other of the suitors. I think that the ghost/shadow thing, and the covering of blood is showing, expressing, or foreshadowing the death of all the suitors. I think that this book will eventually lead to the climax, because this is the big moment that Telemachus and Odysseus gain revenge on the suitors, and regain the power of their estate, also while expressing the idea of the strong relationship or bond between father and son.

  6. The suitor that tries to talk the suitors out of killing Telemachus is Alphinomus. I think that this suitor has more of a respect for Odysseus and his family, like Julia said. I think that he has more honor than the other suitors. Because he is not going to kill a young man, the son of Odysseus. He is also smarter than the other suitors because he sees the omen and tries to prevent it in a way. The blood and ghost like faces means that they are going to die. I think it will lead to the climax of the book, which is when Odysseus will kill all of the suitors.

  7. Alphinomus is the name of the suitor that at least thinks of the consequences of courting a war hero's wife. His protest show he is superstitious and very cautious. The description of the suitors, covered in blood with ghostlike characteristics that foreshadow the death of all the suitors and that it will be the revenge of Odysseus. This will lead to the predicted climax of the suitors being killed. This is based on the previous omens clearly stating that the suitors were doomed.

  8. Amphinomus talks the other suitors out of killing Telemachus. This shows he is smarter (or at least more cautious) than the other suitors. When the walls are covered in blood and the suitors faces are ghostlike, it is foreshadowing their slaughter. I do not think that this book will lead to the climax because i think that already happened when Odysseus was reunited with Telemachus. I think everything in this chapter is falling action because it is foreshadowed that Telemachus and Odysseus will effortlessly slay them.

  9. Alphinomus is the suitor that talks the other suitors out of trying to kill Telemachus. This shows that Alphinomus has more respect for Telemachus than the others and that he is more wise and knows that it will come back to haunt them. the walls covered in blood symbolizes the blood of the suitors meaning that they are going to be killed and its foreshadowing their death. Yes i think that it will lead to the climax because i think that the climax is when Odysseus reveals himself to the suitors and kills all of them and when he reunites with Penelope.

  10. One of the suitors tries to reason with the others. This could mean that he thinks that if they kill Telemachus, the gods would be mad and take revenge. The walls were sort of like an omen that foretold the death of the suitors. I think that the climax is when he tells his loyal servants and kills all the suitors.

  11. The suitor to talk the rest out of killing Telemachus is Amphinomus. This shows he is compassionate and even though he is a suitor and what he is doing is wrong this shows he's not a bad man. he thinks about his actions and respects his host. I dont think he deserves to be killed because he's just following what the rest of the suitors are doing, hes not doing anything bad just because he's a mean, disrespectful person. 'The walls covered in blood and their faces ghostlike' is foreshadowing what Odysseus will do to the suitors. It was Athena that made the uncontrolllable laughter and i think thats why she did it.

  13. The suitor that stopped the rest of the suitors from killing Telemachus is Amphinomus. This shows us that he might have some compassion especially compared to the rest of the suitors or that he is a coward and fears revenge from Odysseus. This is foreshadowing Odysseus re taking his home and the revenge exacted upon the suitors by him. This book is leading to climax. The use of foreshadowing tells us that somthing big is about to happen.

  14. The suitor who tries to talk the others out of killing Telemachus is Amphinomus. This shows us that he has some sort of compassion and respect for Telemachus. He also has courage to stand up to all the others and say what he thinks is right even though it's completely against what they want to do. The walls are covered with blood and the suitors faces are ghostly, it's foreshadowing their death and the massive fight between them and Odysseus. I think this is leading up to the climax because it's building on the excitement for the death which we know is going to be soon.
